Dimeric Phenazinothiadiazole Acceptors in Bulk Heterojunction Solar Cells

Two covalently linked triisopropylsilyl-ethynylated phenazinothiadiazoles were prepared through condensation of a spirocyclic and bicyclic tetraketone with 5,6-diaminobenzothiadiazole. The spirobisindene- the ethanoanthracene-based linkers render electron acceptors amorphous in thin films. optoelectronic properties non-conjugated dimers are indistinguishable from that crystalline monomer. Bulk heterojunction solar cells power conversion efficiencies peaking at 1.6%. choice linker neither influenced optical electrochemical nor device performance.
